About SolarBachat

Last updated 2 October 2026

SolarBachat exists because rooftop-solar pricing in India is quoted in a way that is hard to check: a gross price, a subsidy figure, and a payback that assumes everything goes right. This site publishes the net price after subsidy, the generation the roof will realistically produce, and the assumptions behind both — on the page, next to the number they affect.

§ 1Who runs this

SolarBachat is built and operated by a small independent team in India. It is not affiliated with MNRE, any state agency, any electricity distribution company (DISCOM), or any installer, and no installer has any say in what these pages say or which pages exist.

There is no editorial byline to check because there is no invented one: every figure here is produced by the model described below and is reproducible from it. See how the estimates are limited for the parts this approach cannot tell you.

§ 2How the numbers are made

  • Subsidy follows PM Surya Ghar as published on the national portal: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third, capped at ₹78,000 — and the higher special-category rates for the states and union territories that qualify.
  • Generation is derived from state-typical irradiance — 82–128 units per kW per month depending on the state — and is shown per city, not per state, because two cities in one state can differ by more than two states do.
  • Installed cost uses a published benchmark of ₹58,000 per kW for residential rooftop systems, applied consistently so quotes can be compared against it.
  • Tariffs are indicative averages of domestic slab rates for the current financial year. DISCOMs change these with tariff orders, so a tariff can be out of date — the page says so where it matters.

Every one of these is a model input, not a market observation, and each page prints the assumptions alongside the result. The national figures with their verification dates are collected on the statistics page.

§ 3How this is funded

Homeowners never pay us anything. If you ask for quotes, your request goes to up to three registered installers who work in your city, and those installers pay us per lead. That is the entire revenue model — no display advertising, no tracking ads, no data sales, and nothing sold to a homeowner at any point.

Disclosure sits with the ask, not only in the footer: wherever this site invites you to request a quote, it says the same thing. You can also read what happens to your details in the privacy policy.

§ 4Corrections

If a figure on this site is wrong or out of date, we want to know — send the page, the number, and the source you are checking it against. Corrections that come with a source are applied and the page’s updated date changes. Where we cannot verify something against a primary source, the page says indicative instead of implying precision.

How to send a correction.

§ 5What this site is not

  • Not a quote, a contract, or professional advice — see the terms.
  • Not the government portal. Subsidy applications happen at pmsuryaghar.gov.in, and we cannot check the status of an application filed there.
  • Not an installer and not a party to any work you commission; we introduce you and then have no role in the contract.

Corrections, data questions or press: write to legal@solarbachat.in — see contact.
