Solar panel price per watt in India
The short answer
At the 2026 benchmark of about ₹58,000 per kW installed, solar works out to roughly ₹58 per watt. That is the installed cost of the complete system — panels, inverter, structure, wiring and labour — not the price of the panels alone. A bare panel module is a fraction of that. When an installer quotes you a ₹/W figure, the only question that matters is whether it covers the whole system, and whether the quote is itemised.
Why ₹/W is the number people quote
It is the only figure that lets you compare two system sizes honestly. A 3 kW system and a 5 kW system have different totals but a comparable per-watt cost, so ₹/W is the industry shorthand for whether a quote is in the normal band or out of it.
What the headline number hides
A ₹/W figure covering the complete installation sits near ₹58/W at 2026 benchmarks. The same number quote could mean a system with tier-1 panels and a good inverter, or one with an unbranded inverter and undersized cabling. That is why the per-watt price is a starting point for questions, not an answer.
What actually moves the number
Panel brand and efficiency, inverter brand and type (string versus micro), mounting structure (GI versus MS, and roof height), cable run length, whether a lightning arrester and earthing are included, and whether the net-meter application and DISCOM liaison are part of the price. Two quotes ₹5/W apart usually differ on three of those, not on the panels.
How to compare two quotes properly
Ask for the same system size from both vendors, itemised line by line. Compare panel brand, wattage and warranty; inverter brand and warranty; structure material; whether the net meter is included; and what happens if the DISCOM inspection throws up a defect. A quote that will not itemise is not comparable to one that will, and should not be treated as cheaper.
